Volunteering
New volunteers
approach us because they have heard about the Volunteer Centre from
friends, in the local paper or on the web. We like to invite
volunteers to our office in Tonbridge for an informal, confidential meeting to discuss
their interests and expectations about volunteering. This is not always
possible because of people's work commitments or difficulty in accessing
our office. In those cases we can carry out a telephone interview or
we can arrange to meet in a different location.
As a
prospective volunteer, you can find out about opportunities available from this website or from our
‘Directory of Opportunities’ booklet. We also ask you to
complete an application form detailing your interests and personal
information. We can then explore the 100's of opportunities to see
what will suit you and will then refer you to 3 or
4 suitable organisations. We ask the organisation to make contact and
arrange a meeting. A few weeks later we will follow up both
parties to see if a successful placement has been arranged.
Organisations
contact us when they need new recruits - they provide us with details of
both the organisation's activities and of the particular job they are
seeking to fill. We will promote the job opportunity and try to
match it with one of our volunteers. See our Opportunities page to find
out what is currently available.
The links on
the left will provide you with more information about volunteering. When
you have had a look at these, please click on our "What's
Next?" link. This will provide you with the information you need to
take the next step in volunteering.
