One-to-One Youth BefriendingThe One-to-One Youth Befriending service provides a valuable service to young people who may be experiencing crisis, social disadvantage, unhappiness or isolation. They could be victims of physical, emotional or sexual abuse or be considered to be at risk of such abuse. They may be isolated because they have a disability or their lives may be restricted because they care for a family member. Whatever their problem they need support. Volunteers should be willing to spend just one or two hours a week being a good friend to a young person, be a good listener and have a caring sympathetic nature. Befrienders come from all backgrounds and age groups and have all sorts of interests. The organisation provides practical training sessions and support for the volunteers. Volunteers have fun and know they are making a difference to the youngsters they help. A befriender is a good listener, is patient and tolerant and will provide a positive role model in a safe, caring, open relationship. If you would like to find out more about befriending a young person near you please contact us at the Volunteer Centre, Tonbridge. |
