June 2008: Volunteer Centre Tonbridge wins the prestigeous "Heart of the Community" special award from AXA PPP and the Courier Newspaper Group.

At a presentation dinner held at the Spa Hotel in Tunbridge Wells, the Managers of Volunteer Centre Tonbridge accompanied by David Cure chairman of the Trustees, received a Special Award from AXA-PPP for services to the local community. The presentation was the climax in an evening in which the Courier Newspaper presented awards to local charities chosen by its readers.

The Heart of the Community award will be used to fund our new project Network V. This scheme is designed to provide support and friendship for new volunteers.  We plan to hold regular meetings every two months to provide a chance for new volunteers to meet together at an informal event. There will be an opportunity to discuss how we as a Volunteer Centre can help people find the right volunteer placement and how we can offer them extra support where necessary.   We will invite speakers from some of the local organisations who work with volunteers and we hope to hear from the volunteers themselves about the work they are doing.
